Five Favorite Client Looks

Here on the Key Moments blog, we are always talking about the importance of a great wardrobe in your family portraits! I invest a lot of time helping clients select the perfect pieces! As you may remember from our Styling your Family for your Portrait Session blog, I recommend the following tips when selecting your wardrobe:

  • Focus your energy on one really great set of outfits so we can focus our time together on emotion instead of multiple (stressful) wardrobe changes.

  • Coordinating, not matching, is the key.

  • Utilize our interactive styling service! See this post for more information on this unique and fun styling experience!

  • Let me help you tweak- I always have my clients send me a picture of their outfits all laid out and we perfect them from there!

  • Relax- I always suggest that clients select and order their wardrobe right after booking. Once your items come in- try them on! Make sure everyone’s outfits look and fit well that way we have no last-minute surprises! This saves you stress allowing you to relax and enjoy our time together!

Now on to my top five favorite client-looks and why they work so well!

Number one: The Smith Family’s fall wardrobe.

Why this works- Nicole used a nice combination of patterns, colors, and textures with the boys’ looks. You can never go wrong with chambray- it photographs really well and is a personal favorite of mine! Her dress had the perfect amount of flowy-ness: think about this when selecting a dress Moms, it really adds something to images when your dress is billowing in the wind. Finally, don’t forget about the hat!

Number two- The Hutchins Family’s summer wardrobe.

Why this works: Again, Nikki really made use of a variety of patterns with the guy’s clothing. I loved the way she pulled the colors from the embroidery detail on her dress so that while there is a large variety of colors, they all coordinate perfectly. Speaking of that dress- this is a statement piece. It really pops in the images. I overall really love this look.

Number three- My family’s fall wardrobe.

Out of all of our homemade family photo sessions, this was my favorite wardrobe. I felt really comfortable in my dress, it had the perfect amount of flowy-ness, and as compared to the other photos in my home; these coordinate the most because this color scheme is really on brand with my home decor. That is something a lot of people (myself included) may not consider when selecting wardrobe (hello black & pink and bright teal wardrobe selections circa 2017 and 2019 lol.) While I love all of our family photos and the wardrobe we have on in them, I have these images in the rust and cream scheme displayed in our home because they look the best there.

Number four: The Mawhinnie Family’s summer wardrobe.

Why this works: Raven has always had a great eye for detail. Between the bow on her dress, baby girl’s sweet chambray jumper, and the interest added by the pattern on Dad’s shirt- this family wardrobe is very detailed, interesting, and well-coordinated.

Number five: The Hodges Family’s spring wardrobe.

Why this works: Lindsey was one of our first clients to utilize our Style and Select interactive styling service. Here’s what she had to say:

The only thing harder than finding a time to schedule family photos is coordinating outfits for family photos. You Pinterest your little heart out and maybe find the perfect ensemble for you or a child, then you have to coordinate everyone else around that specific piece. That's all if you're able to find exactly what you have in mind. Style and Select gave me somewhere to start. I put in all 4 of us, our sizes and our desired style/colors and it generated a plethora of options. The boys get several tops and bottoms to choose from, the girls get tops, bottoms and dresses. As you choose favorites from each person's respective categories it gives you side by side comparisons so you can get a visual of your outfits all together. Once you've picked favorites for everyone it will even generate accessories! Hats, jewelry, jackets, headbands, all of it. Everything was very practical, things we would normally wear at a price we would normally pay.

I hope you found these tips helpful- let me know which look is your favorite in the comments!!

Love, Brandi
